 Canadian Association for Photographic Arts (CAPA) Competition Submissions

A selection of images submitted by Camera 35 St. John’s members for CAPA competitions during the season indicated. These entries showcase talent in nature, fine art, portraiture, and creative categories, meeting CAPA’s standards for technical excellence and artistic impact.

The 2019-2020 season was another exceptional year for Camera 35, with our photographers earning a range of prestigious awards in national competition. This year showcased the incredible diversity of talent within the club, from creative still-life compositions to striking wildlife and landscape photography.

Leading the way, Karen Chappell achieved Gold Medals for Brandy Balance and Liquid Science, demonstrating an extraordinary mastery of composition and lighting. Michael Winsor followed closely, securing Silver Medals for Juvenile Bald Eagle Lunch and Puffin with Iris, both of which beautifully captured the essence of wildlife in its natural environment.

Among this year’s 1st Merit Award winners, Karen Chappell and Eric Bartlett continued to impress, with Brandy Balance and The Duo receiving recognition for their artistry and technical excellence. Michael Winsor earned a 2nd Merit Award for Juvenile Bald Eagle Lunch, reinforcing his reputation as one of the country’s finest nature photographers.

Adding to the year’s achievements, Karen Chappell’s Autumn Canopy was Selected to Represent Canada, a prestigious honour that highlights the significance of her work on the national stage.

The Honour Awards this year celebrated the exceptional work of Carol Ann Ryan, Cindy Marshall, and Michael Winsor, among others. Golden Morning, Signal Hill Reflection, Red-Eyed Vireo, and Sleepy Mother Fox were among the standout images that earned recognition.

With multiple Gold and Silver Medals, as well as strong representation in the Honour and Merit categories, 2019-2020 was an outstanding year for Camera 35. Congratulations to all the talented members whose work was recognized in this highly competitive season!
