Canadian Association for Photographic Arts (CAPA) Competition Submissions
A selection of images submitted by Camera 35 St. John’s members for CAPA competitions during the season indicated. These entries showcase talent in nature, fine art, portraiture, and creative categories, meeting CAPA’s standards for technical excellence and artistic impact.
The 2018-2019 season was another strong year for Camera 35, with our members earning multiple distinctions in national competition. This year saw Michael Winsor and Lesleyanne Ryan achieving outstanding success, alongside several other talented photographers who brought home well-deserved recognition.
Michael Winsor and Lesleyanne Ryan secured 1st Merit Awards, with Magical Moment and Living on the Edge respectively, highlighting their ability to capture compelling and visually stunning imagery. Darren Langdon followed closely with a 2nd Merit Award for Ferryland Lighthouse, a striking depiction of Newfoundland’s coastal beauty.
Michael Winsor continued to impress, earning 3rd Merit Awards for Canadian Iceberg and New York City Lights, further cementing his reputation for both natural and urban landscape photography. His image Canadian Iceberg was also Selected to Represent Canada, alongside Darren Langdon’s Ferryland Lighthouse, a tremendous honour that places these works among the country’s best.
This year also saw a strong showing of Honour Awards, recognizing the creative vision of Elizabeth Noftall, Carol Ann Ryan, Marek Bromberek, Karen Chappell, Joe Chase, and Michael Winsor. Their work, including Red Fox in Morning Light, Signal Hill Hockey Game, When Stars Line Up, and Bashful Beauty, captivated judges and audiences alike.
With such an impressive collection of accolades, 2018-2019 was a year of remarkable achievement for Camera 35. Congratulations to all our award-winning photographers for their dedication, talent, and continued success in national competition!
